This course provides attendees with a basic working knowledge of performance models for communication networks, with an emphasis on IP networks. This course concentrates on the most relevant factors that influence the performance of networks such as availability, bandwidth, delay and packet loss. In addition the impact of network performance on the way users perceive the quality of certain applications will be quantified. As example applications Voice-over-IP and web browsing will be considered. This knowledge can be applied for configuring, planning and dimensioning communication networks.
