Profile Summary

Jung Kyung Kim received a B.Sc. degree in Mechanical Engineering at Seoul National University in 1996. He obtained a M.Sc. and a Ph.D. degrees both in Biomedical Engineering at Seoul National University in 1998 and 2003, respectively. From May 2002 to June 2004, he worked for a startup company, Digital Biotechnology (now NanoEnTek) as a leader of its Microfluidics & Microimaging Group and had close relationships with biologists to develop miniaturized high-throughput and high-content screening tools, including microfluidics-based flow cytometer, microchip electroporator, microscope-based optical tweezers, and quantum dot bioconjugates. From July 2004 to August 2006, he was a postdoctoral fellow in the Laboratory for Cell and Membrane Biophysics at the University of California, San Francisco. His postdoctoral research centered around the mathematical modeling and Monte Carlo simulation of novel in-vivo photobleaching techniques for the measurement of molecular diffusion and interactions in living cells and tissues. After joining Kookmin University based in Seoul, Republic of Korea in September 2006 as an assistant professor, he has been directing Biomedical Device Laboratory. Now he serves as a tenured professor in School of Mechanical Engineering since 2017.
