Abstract
In recent years, the data center market continues to maintain rapid growth. Servers used for artificial intelligence generated content (AIGC) has high requirements for the data transmission, demanding high-rate optical modules, which promotes the accelerated evolution towards 800G optical modules. We organized the investigation and evaluation of one typical type of 800G optical modules, 2×FR4, from 3 different vendors, the application of which is spreading rapidly in data centers. Key parameters have been tested and analyzed, including wavelength deviation, side-mode suppression ratio (SMSR), average launch power(each lane), outer optical modulation amplitude (OMAouter), receiver sensitivity (OMAouter), eye diagram, power consumption as well as DDM function. Interconnection and interworking has also been demonstrated both on instrument and switch. The results show current commercial 800G 2×FR4 optical modules are capable to meet the requirements of the standards that have been released.
