An ultra-wideband bandpass frequency selective surface with a three-layer structure is designed. A multilayer coupling approach is used to design the metal patch and a Jerusalem cross metal grid in layers. Full-wave simulation results show that the -3dB bandwidth of the structure extends from 8.9GHz to 36.1GHz, reaching an absolute bandwidth of 27.2GHz and a relative bandwidth of 121%. In addition, such an FSS has the advantage of a low profile, flat passband and stable performance at various incidence angles. In the ultra-wideband operating range, the maximum loss in the passband is less than 0.6dB for electromagnetic waves within an incidence angle of 40°, and there is no significant change in bandwidth, with good angular and polarization stability.
