Abstract
The systems considerations in implementing a bit serial optical computer using lithium niobate directional couplers and optical fiber is described. The three main problems in constructing such a computer, computation of fiber lengths, estimation of and compensation for power losses, and details of the physical construction of the machine, are discussed.
