Abstract
An analysis revealing a simple closed form solution for the poles of a polarization-coupled ring resonator is presented for the first time. The resonant frequencies are easily calculated as well as the pole magnitudes based on the relative phase and polarization-dependent ring coupling. Applications include wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) filters with new pole magnitude tuning capability and analysis of polarization dependence in birefringent fiber-based and integrated-optic resonator-enhanced filters.
