Abstract
Using POLSK (POLarization Shift Keying) and DPSK (Differential Phase Shift Keying) formats we fully exploit Semiconductor Optical Amplifiers (SOAs) for signal amplification in practical WDM Nx10 Gbit/s systems. Record transmission experiments are presented, thus making SOAs a competitive amplification alternative in metro and extended-metro networks.
