Abstract
In contrast to traditional cartography, schematic network map including road and river network needs new cartographical generalization methods. In this paper, the cartographic design criteria of schematic road network map are analyzed and summarized. Based on this, a set of quantitive constrains are set up, and a new road network generalization method including progressive selection and displacement is proposed. Furthermore, we research topological checking method for road network. Based on these constrains, the points in a road network are classified, and a satisfied and effective schematic map is designed in a concrete experiment, while keeping the topological consistency of the road network between original and schematic map.
