Abstract
In order to develop a broadband network as an infrastructure for the future ISDN, guidelines for the optical local network are derived from an analysis of the types of services, the required capacities, the architecture of the network and the length of the different lines. Cbncepts as defined for the ISDN are adopted. Flexibility needs are particularly emphasized. Characteristics for the topology of the local network and multiplexing schemes at the user-network interface are raised.
