Abstract
In this paper we investigate the transmission performance of 16Nx10 Gb/s, 4Nx40 Gb/s and Nx160 Gb/s DWDM systems with equal spectral efficiency (0.8 bit/s/Hz). For a comparison between different systems optimized filter, fiber settings as well as optimized dispersion compensation scheme have been used. It is shown that if the considered amount of photons per bit is constant all investigated systems show similar transmission characteristics.
