Abstract
We present a brief overlook of recent developments in designing new Neodimum:YAG laser systems optimized for laser cleaning of artworks. With reference to the research activity carried out in this field in Italy, we describe how the formation of multidisciplinary research groups produced significant technological advances and applications to the restoration of important works of art.
