Abstract
We propose a new motion estimation (ME) algorithm adequate for temporal error concealment. To increase spatial motion vector (MV) correlation for efficient temporal error concealment, the proposed algorithm utilizes an enlarged macroblock (MB) for ME, which includes pixels in the adjacent MBs in addition to an original MB. It is proved that the algorithm considerably improves error concealment performance, while minimizing the degradation of encoding performance.
