Abstract
Despite the large degrees of parallelism present in the structure of the data and operations, it is not clear what parallel architecture is best suited for a given image processing application. This paper proposes a model for the formulation of parallel image processing tasks, and it enables a determination of a 'high level' specification of an optimal parallel architecture corresponding to a given application. In addition, the problem of determining the requirements for real time processing is addressed.
