Abstract
This paper discusses and formulates expressions for the two main sources of error in the damage frequency method, namely the uncertainty in observed fluence and observed damage probability. Expressions for the two uncertainties are given and examined in the limiting probability cases. The relative sizes of the two sources are compared and it is shown that the uncertainty associated with determining the probability of damage is the dominant term.
