Abstract
Wireless ATM networks are expected to support a variety of services with different bit-rates and quality-of-service (QoS) requirements. A major challenge for these networks is the design of the multiple access scheme. This paper analyzes both TDMA and CDMA techniques as possibilities for multiple access in wireless ATM networks. Our analysis is based on the capabilities of these two techniques to support various services and meet their QoS requirements. For each technique, several alternative protocols are described and their advantages and disadvantages are discussed. In addition, a hybrid CDMA/TDMA technique is introduced.
