Abstract
Problems associated with landing have always been of prime concern to the U.S Air Force laboratories. Early lab work in landing monitors suggested that employing display and imaging technologies could aid in flight conditions which required ground based signaling support. This paper recounts the evolution of a system concept to support the pilot in the most critical phases of flight. It also describes current efforts and the activities of the federal team now supporting this wide ranging technology application.
