Abstract
Multivalue processing of gray-level image is to transform an image with l gray levels into an image with k gray levels where k is always less than l. In this paper, a new novel, flexible multivalue method based on the selection of varied local extreme points ((delta) -extreme) on gray histograms of the image is proposed and discussed. Several experimental results are given out in the paper to show that this algorithm is very effective, especially for those images with flat histograms.
