Abstract
The NNSIM development environment for neural networks aims to cover the path from abstract design to silicon realizations. In the paper, some of the underlying concepts are outlined. From a discussion on the relation between design and prototyping, two digital neural network implementation styles are introduced. Subsequently, the impact of area/time trade- offs on the architecture is analyzed. Finally, the required extensions to NNSIM are listed and a typical application is briefly reviewed.
