17 October 2023 High-performance and low SWaP-C frequency comb for portable optical clock applications

Abstract
Here, a high-performance and low SWaP-C octave-spanning frequency comb laser system operating in the visible and near-infrared spectral regions is reported. A highly-compact diode-pumped Kerr-lens mode-locked Ti:sapphire laser producing 37 fs pulses with an average power of 820 mW and a pulse repetition rate of 0.5 GHz was used as a pump source for supercontinuum generation. Octave-spanning supercontinuum (∼ 550-1100 nm) was produced with an average power up to 300 mW from an 8-cm long nonlinear photonic crystal fiber. The broadband nature of supercontinuum, its high power, and overall compactness of the set-up make the whole system to be viable for further development of self-referenced optical frequency combs for various portable optical clock applications.
