Abstract
Converter station refers to the station established in the HVDC transmission system to complete the conversion from AC to DC or DC to AC and meet the requirements of power system for safety, stability and power quality. Unlike AC substations, bird damage is more frequent due to its DC characteristics. Especially for high-voltage converter stations, the blackout caused by bird damage will cause more serious economic losses and social impact. Therefore, Pakistan ± 660kV Matiari-Lahore HVDC transmission project has been selected as the research object in this paper. Through the analysis of bird habits, four targeted bird prevention measures have been proposed and installed in the converter station for verification. The test results show that the proposed anti-bird damage measures can effectively reduce the number of bird damage trips and ensure the safe operation of the converter station.
