Abstract
In order to realize the non-catalytic ignition of hydroxylamine nitrate (HAN) thruster above ten Newtons, a design method of hierarchical non-catalytic ignition of HAN thruster is proposed, and the general design theory of hierarchical ignition thruster is given. Based on the idea that the energy released by the combustion of the branch propellant is greater than the energy required for the ignition of the main propellant, the propellant flow required for the ignition branch can be calculated. Based on the droplet size of the main propellant atomization, the evaporation rate of water in the propellant droplets, and the combustion rate of the propellant, the time required for the ignition of the propellant droplets can be obtained. Combined with the movement rate of the propellant droplets, and the required length of the thruster combustion chamber can be calculated. Taking EMP-01 HAN-based propellant as an example, the design parameters of the 40N HAN thruster with hierarchical non-catalytic ignition are calculated. The branch flow is about 14.3% of the total flow, and the length of the combustion chamber is about 101.5mm, which is longer than the length of the combustion chamber of the catalytic decomposition HAN thruster. The proposed calculation method lays an important theoretical foundation for the design and development of non-catalytic ignition HAN thruster.
