Abstract
Mesoscale ocean front is a special category of oceanographic phenomena, and has complex effects on the propagation of underwater sound, and meanwhile the complex topographic variations of the seafloor also have an impact on the underwater sound propagation characteristics. In this paper, we simulate the communication located at between the distant and the near, and use the Bellhop numerical model of hydro acoustics to calculate the transmission loss and analyze the effects of mesoscale ocean fronts and topography on deep-sea sound. The result shows that when the sound crosses the ocean front, the deflection of the sound line causes the spatial distribution of the sound field to vary; when the sound travels from offshore to the distance, the constraint on the topography makes the reflected sound waves of the seafloor into the surface water, which will limit the energy loss; when the sound travels from the distance to offshore, the topography makes the energy in the deep-sea duct leak, which compensates the transmission loss caused by the ocean front. The combined effects of topography and hydrographic environment make the acoustic duct exhibit complex change characteristics. Topographic condition plays a dominant role in the sound field pattern, and the non-uniform hydrographic environment caused by the ocean front is the key factor that causes abnormal changes in the spatial distribution of acoustic energy.
