Abstract
In this paper, we study a load balancing optimization method for joint user association and UAV location in UAV-aided wireless communication networks. First, we propose a utility function that takes the users’ SINR, UAV loads, and the spatial dispersion of the users served by the identical UAV into account. Second, this paper achieves load balancing by solving the utility maximization problem. Due to the coupled user association and the location of the UAV in the utility function, the utility maximization problem is a non-convex mixed integer nonlinear problem (MINLP), which is inconveniently solved. Therefore, we decouple the original problem into two sub-problems. In the first step, given the UAVs’ location, we can obtain the users’ association scheme based on the utility-maximizing association strategy (UMS). In the second step, based on the current users’ association scheme, we update the UAVs’ location through an improved distributed in-order location optimization method (DOLO). Finally, by solving the user association and UAV location optimization sub-problems iteratively, we can obtain the optimal user association scheme and UAV location. The simulation results show that, compared with the traditional user association method, the proposed method can achieve load balancing efficiently. Meanwhile, it can guarantee better dense effect between users and the UAVs that serve them.
