Abstract
The transmitting volume Bragg grating in photo-thermo-refractive glass can achieve angular filtering to improve the beam quality in near field. However, due to the limit of the Bragg angle, integration with laser systems is hard to realize. This thesis proposes a cross vector volume Bragg grating which can overcome the above disadvantage and has important application value. On the basis of the rigorous coupled-wave theory, this thesis studies the diffraction characteristics of transmitting cross vector volume Bragg grating. Adding a pair of permittivity modulations in grating, substituting the diffraction light wave vector obtained by Floquet theorem into the total field, the rigorous coupled-wave equations are achieved. The distribution of the diffraction light in grating can be solved by the boundary conditions and its diffraction characteristics are analyzed. It turns out that the diffraction in the cross vector volume Bragg grating is a superposition of two modulation’s influences. And when incident angle is equal to the Bragg angle, if the ratio of the two refractive index modulations is fixed, the ratio of two peak diffraction efficiencies will not change. Based on the results, structure parameters of cross vector volume Bragg grating that meet the filtering requirements can be designed.
