Abstract
This paper discusses monitoring of water objects using the example of the Ob River. The practical significance of monitoring these changes consists of detecting congestion, cracks and areas with thin or melting ice. On the basis of techniques for interpreting satellite images, a method for detecting changes using multi-temporal satellite images was developed. Obtained quantitative indicators gave the area of ice cover and the speed of ice melting that allows to clearly trace the tendency during the first month. In this way, the technique is suitable for solving other problems.
