22 February 2017 Autofocus changes the paradigm for camera technology

Abstract
Fixed focus systems have long been the mainstay in the field of industrial camera technology. This has limited the applications where vision systems could be used. Increasingly, we are seeing vision applications that involve movement or target variability where autofocus is becoming a requirement. The traditional methods of implementing autofocus can be cumbersome and limited. As new technologies emerge in the field of autofocus, being able to adapt them to the industrial camera technology is key. By incorporating these new technologies, such as liquid lenses, with existing camera technology, we can now provide small, very fast, reliable autofocus solutions to the industrial marketplace. This changes the paradigm for industrial camera technology and opens a wide range of new imaging applications and markets.
