Abstract
Coded Aperture Snapshot Spectral Imager (CASSI) senses three-dimensional scenes using a single focal plane array (FPA) snapshot. CASSI measurements are random projections of the underlying scene which can be recovered using the theory of compressive sensing (CS). This work generalizes the CASSI architecture which permits to sense high resolution hyper-spectral scenes using low resolution FPAs. We present a multiple-shot extension of CASSI where spectral super-resolution can be attained. In the proposed system, a second highresolution coded aperture is introduced in CASSI to encode both spatial and spectral dimensions of the data cube. This approach allows the reconstruction of super-resolved hyper-spectral data cubes, where the number of spectral bands is significantly increased. Simulations show an improvement of up to 6 dB in PSNR image reconstruction, and a four-fold increase in spectral resolution.
