Abstract
There are several different approaches to reconstruct and display 3D object from its serial cross section. Unfortunately, most previous methods do not yield satisfactory results with the object of concave shape.Besides, the constructed surface will usually be coarse if the degree of dissimilarity among the contours is high. To improve the smoothness, some 3D smoothing operators may be applied to the reconstructed surface. An enhanced 3D interpolation technique using the co-matching correspondence finding is introduced. It improves the previous surface reconstruction methods and involves the insertion of additional points for better matching. In order to obtain a more realistic 3D effect, triangular facets are generated between contours. The triangular facets are then painted with grey level. The intensity is defined by a synthetic light source and the observation point. Finally, modified Phong shading is employed to provide a smooth and continuous surface.
