Abstract
Compared with traditional optical communication methods, the orbital angular momentum (OAM) light beams present the orthogonal states of different topological charge values, and could improve the transmission rate of the optical communication system. The system to generate orbital angular momentum beams include helical phase plate, spatial light modulator (SLM), in which the latter produces OAM faster and has better beam quality. When the SLM is used to generate OAM beams, the uneven intensity and phase distributions of the target beam are caused by the nonuniform surface of the wavefront shaping device, the intrinsic phase difference, the atmospheric disturbance in the propagations. The existing research on real-time wavefront correction or compensation is relatively limited. In this paper, the on-axis holographic method is proposed to make real-time phase measurement, by fitting the wavefront through Zernike polynomial, and compensating the aberration using SLM, so as to recover to the near-ideal phase distribution. The proposed real-time wavefront correction has potential applications for OAM beams in biomedical applications such as chiral molecular detections.
